Kim Keys-Colored Pencil Artist/Teacher

Artist’s Statement

I am a colored pencil artist who loves to convey the beauty of creation and things I love on to a surface so others can be inspired and impacted by the artwork. I love to create a painterly look as I did with oil paints, but now with colored pencils. You can see my gallery of works here. Hoping you find something inspiring to bring into your space!

I also have found I enjoy writing about some of my techniques as well as inspiring articles for other artists.  You can see those publications below.

Teaching others how to use this favorite medium of mine is also something I am very passionate about.  You can find out about upcoming classes here.

A Little About Kim Keys

I have always loved to create, even from my childhood. I began taking art more seriously around 2008 by taking oil painting lessons. After about 8 years of oil painting, I discovered colored pencils, and the rest is history. I completely fell in love with the medium. Since then, I’ve enjoyed creating original work with high quality sets of colored pencils which are rich in pigment and have great lightfastness which will create lasting pieces of art for my clients.

I am inspired mostly to create pieces of art from creation with flowers, butterflies, birds, mountains and oceans being some of my favorite subjects. I also enjoy doing still life paintings created with things I have collected and are displayed in my home. Holiday and season themed paintings are also favorites of mine to create.

I hope to convey to the fans of my art the beauty made by our Creator as well as peace and healing. I have found much healing in my own life by creating art. My desire is for a channel to be opened for peace and healing as you experience my art.

I also currently teaching a colored pencil class in my studio to inspire others in this medium and to help them create their own works of art. Teaching is a joy for me and I love to help others learn about using colored pencils.

I reside in Paris, Texas with my husband, Stuart. We enjoy spending time with our family, especially our grandchildren. I am a member of the Paris Art Study Club. I am currently a member of the national organization of Colored Pencil Society of America as well as the Dallas-Ft. Worth area Chapter 224.
